Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of the 40-day Lenten season and concludes on the Saturday before Easter. (Sundays are excluded because it is the Lord's Day. Every Sunday is a celebration of Christ's resurrection.) Although the Bible does not mention the custom of Lent, the Lenten season is traditionally recognized and celebrated in various Christian denominations. As believers, we utilize this 40-day period in preparation to celebrate Christ's death and resurrection.
During this Lenten Season, I am asking that we, individually and corporately, as a church step back and do some serious soul searching, reflection and repentance. Before Jesus began His ministry, he spent 40-days preparing. Moses spent 40-years on the other side of the mountain and Noah was 40-days on the ark. Forty in the Bible may be viewed as a period of preparation, probation, trial or chastisement. This Lenten season is our time of preparation, our time to set our priorities, dreams and goals in line with GOD. The word tells us, "Unless the Lord builds the house the builder's labor is in vain." (Psalm 127:1) We want GOD to be the Builder of all our works!
Our Pastors and Ministers have come together to prepare Lenten meditations for our congregation. As we follow GOD and lead you into this special time of preparation and reflection, we ask that you commit these next 40-days to a period of consecration, reflection and repentance. Jesus said, "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33-34)
Let's consciously, purposefully and sacrificially and seek God together!
In His Service,
